Circular Economy and Sustainability: the Past, the Present and the Future Directions

The concepts of circular economy (CE) and sustainability (S) have lately gained momentum among scholars, theorists, academics, practitioners. Although these are considered necessary to solve many the existing global environmental social challenges (e.g., climate change, nature conservation equity), it seems there is no consistency relating their content. Some scholars consider two identical, while others contemplate them as different. Several theoretical approaches been presented clarify content provide effective ways problems. goal this paper examine literature regarding CE S based on a triple-level analysis (micro, meso, macro level) across different scientific fields: economic/management engineering/natural science. Our findings show with several relationships, similarities, differences at micro, macro-levels within engineering management fields. Based findings, future research agenda also proposed.
